North View Middle School celebrates March Madness with school-wide festivities

North View Middle School (NVMS) made a fun, school-wide celebration out of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)’s March Madness season, with over 250 students directly participating in the festivities and the remaining cheering on the competitors during the school-wide celebration March 22. 

NVMS’s March Madness event included 26 total teams in the bracket from all grade levels, with basketball games played during morning advisory time beginning March 6 to whittle down the teams to the eventual Elite Eight. On March 22, the school celebrated with the Final Four and Championship games. The event also included student emcees, scorekeepers, cheerleaders, deejays and referees, and a halftime show featured performances by the school’s after-school dance team and the school’s band members. 

This year, students also took part in a door decorating contest and a library challenge, filling out brackets to guess the top eight books checked out during the month of March.
