North View Middle School had a festive atmosphere Friday morning, Oct. 27, as the school hosted the final round of their weeks-long World Cup event.
North View social worker Drew Hamilton said the school held a big soccer tournament for the Men’s World Cup last year, so with the women’s event taking place over the summer, they wanted to commemorate that with a celebration as well.
North View scholars teamed up with their advisory classes to take part in a World Cup bracket throughout the month of October. All 36 advisory classes were assigned a country that participated in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, and they played their way through the bracket three days per week during advisory time. Each class also participated in a door decorating contest, with classes decorating their classroom’s door with a theme to match their team.
In the end, Mr. Corrigan’s eighth grade advisory team matched up with Ms. Teeple’s sixth grade class for the World Cup Finals. Some advisory classes were able to watch the final game live, with the rest watching it via a livestream from their classrooms. The score was tied at zeros at halftime, but in the end the eighth grade team emerged victorious at 1-0 after a scrappy, back-and-forth match. The winning team received a doughnut party for their advisory class.
